Day 5: Caring

Today’s focus is about taking care of yourself and the environment around you. We are our most valuable instruments in our healing arts profession. We take care of others all the time, but it’s central to recognize that it’s just as important to take care of yourself and today’s experts will help you to do just that. We’ll also take a look at taking care of the environment around us and examine the trend of social consciousness and the greening of your business.

Dr. Beth Hedva - Spirituality and bodywork

In bodywork and massage spirituality is discussed infrequently if ever. This is an introduction to the concept of learning specialized training that will help you to increase your use of intuition and spiritual connection in the therapeutic relationship. Dr. Hedva will touch on a blend of cross cultural, indigenous and ancient approaches to healing with contemporary research, methods and techniques from energy medicine and spiritual health.

Dr. Hedva is the author of Journey from Betrayal to Trust and the award-winning Betrayal, Trust and Forgiveness, is an internationally recognized authority in the field of 'change'. As a counsellor she helps individuals find enlightening ways to succeed in meeting life's greatest challenges. As a teacher and a Director of the International Council of Psychologists, she continues to introduce new approaches for dealing with betrayals, traumas or disappointments. She has a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Psychology and a PhD in Psychology, was the Director of Clinical Internships and Field Placement at two universities in California and has trained and taught counselling professionals globally.

Honored as an International Women of the Year by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England at age 35, then listed in the World Who's Who of Women a year later, she was recently nominated to the first Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. Dr. Hedva is also licensed as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor and is a Clinical Parapsychologist -- having worked as an ‘Expert Intuitive’ and liaison to the Office of Paranormal Investigation on research teams to explore ghosts, hauntings and poltergeists since its inception in 1989. She is certified as a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Psychological Specialties. Dr. Hedva conducts seminars and workshops regionally, nationally and internationally

Annie Leonard - The Story of Stuff  

In this session Annie will share with us her most recent project, the Story of Stuff, where we will explore the global materials economy and its impact on economy, environment and health. She will give us insight into her work from the past two decades to help raise awareness about international sustainability and environmental health issues and will share information on her work with the Global Anti-Incinerator Alliance, Health Care without Harm, Essential Information and Greenpeace International.

Annie Leonard is an expert in international sustainability and environmental health issues, with more than 20 years of experience investigating factories and dumps around the world. Coordinator of the Funders Workgroup for Sustainable Production and Consumption, a funder collaborative working for a sustainable and just world, Annie communicates worldwide about the impact of consumerism and materialism on global economies and international health.

She currently serves on the boards of GAIA, the International Forum for Globalization and the Environmental Health Fund. Previously she has served on the boards of the Grassroots Recycling Network, the Environmental Health Fund, Global Greengrants India and Greenpeace India.

Since 1986 she has been a certified CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release®instructor for The Upledger Institute. She has authored several articles and a textbook chapter on developing therapeutic presence.

Melanie Hayden RMT - The Mentorship Circle: Creating professional and personal success

Melanie Hayden Left the high-tech corporate oil and gas world behind, and became a registered massage therapist more than 12 years ago. She has practiced in a corporate wellness centre, an integrative health care clinic and now has a part time wellness based practice out of her home office in Calgary Alberta. Melanie encourages her clients to discover ways to re-connect with the things that make them healthy and happy and teaches them how to bring elements of self care and into each day. Melanie incorporated The Healing Cocoon which serves as an umbrella company to facilitate her love of creating and organizing women’s retreat weekends, health and wellness presentations and workshops that support massage therapists to experience professional and personal success. Melanie has presented throughout Canada and at the Upledger Institute Foundations International Research conference in the United States.
